cruise review: Big red boat

Big Red Boat
www.bigredboat.com

Site Features:
Ports of Call, Fleet, Package Vacations

Site Report:

Premier Cruise Line’s website for its Big Red Boat family cruise ship is well organized and extremely easy to follow.

Just click on the red carpet leading up to the boat and you are led into the ship’s lobby. Click on “Guided Tour” and you can find out about the boat, ports of call and cruise packages.

Click on “Cool Stuff” and kids can enter a coloring contest or do a puzzle while adults learn about cruise activities for them – dancing, shows, gambling and, of course, what’s a cruise without an Elvis impersonator or two?

The flashing icon at the center of the first screen that screams “Last-minute, unadvertised super bargains” is a little misleading. A click reveals short descriptions of the packages offered without any prices – let alone rock-bottom ones.

Package prices are actually accessed through the second screen under “Last minute Specials.”

Still, the site has a few cool features – you can actually view the ship’s 30-second television commercial and get up-to the minute weather forecasts for the Bahamas under the “Cool Stuff” icon.

But getting a good deal isn’t as easy as The Big Red Boat’s site makes it seem -- you still have to reserve through an outside travel agent – an extra step many cruise line web sites are beginning to avoid by featuring their own online reservation services.
