Site Report:
Horizon Airline was another company formed to meet the needs of the country after airline deregulation.

The larger airlines abandoned the Northeast, so Milt Kuolt and some folks from Seattle formed Horizon in 1978. In 1981, they brought together 36 enthusiastic employees and a fleet consisting of two leased Fairchild F-27 turboprop aircraft to begin service between Yakima, Pasco and Seattle.

Horizon Airlines grew quickly and was able to become a public company in 1984. They did well and by 1986 were profitable enough that some of the larger airlines had taken notice. Horizon became a takeover target. After a bidding war, Horizon was acquired by Seattle-based Alaska Air Group, Inc., a holding company that included Alaska Airlines.

Today, Horizon Airlines has 4,000 employees strong and serves more than 40 cities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, Arizona, British Columbia and Alberta. The company is recognized as one of the leading regional airlines in the country and holds the distinction of being the only one named to Condé Nast Traveler Magazine's Readers Choice Awards list.

The Horizon Airlines website is operated by Alaska Airlines, the parent company. You can type in horizonair.com of course, but you can save yourself a step by typing in the alaskaair.com URL.
