Campendium
campendium.com
Campendium offers information on a selection of thousands of places to camp, from luxury RV sites, to free spots with stunning views, with each one vetted by a team of full-time travellers who boast years of experience in the industry. The platform is free to use and offers a free mobile application on both Android and iOS, allowing users to continue using the site’s content while on the go.
One feature that I have encountered while using Campendium, and which I think sets it aside from other similar websites, is its thorough rating system. Each campsite has an overall star rating out of five based on a range of qualities determined by previous users, including access, location, scenery, cleanliness, site quality and noise. Campers can also leave a comment with their experience of the spot, in order to provide others with a general idea of what to expect. They can also post photos that they have taken of the site to give a clearer picture.
Another great feature is the cell phone coverage indicator, giving campers an idea of how much service they can expect when at the site across a number of different providers, including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. I found this to be a fantastic and unique addition to the website as I am often having to make calls when staying somewhere and could therefore opt for somewhere that other campers have indicated has good connection.
Whether a first time or experienced camper, having access to a free camping guide is always a good resource, and Campendium is one site that recognizes this, offering a blog containing a range of articles on all sorts of camping-related topics. Articles include 5-star camping suggestions, top places to take an RV and full itineraries for different US states. They also offer a selection of videos, as well as their very own ‘Camping Choice Awards’ for exceptional camping grounds.
One issue I found with Campendium, however, was that while they provide lots of detailed information on thousands of campsites across the US, there is no option to book directly via the site. In order to make a reservation, you must click on the link to the official website of the camping ground.
