Turu is an online platform that offers a comprehensive selection of holiday sites, caravan parks, camping grounds and cabins in Australia, with almost 2,000 listings nationwide. You can search for your ideal location based on region, park features or price, before finding out detailed information to help you decide precisely where you would like to stay. You can also book directly via the website or make an inquiry by filling in their online form.

Turu provides all sorts of different accommodation types and themes, however one section of the website that I think is particularly useful is the ‘Pet-friendly’ category. Travelling with a pet is no easy task and it can end up being far simpler to leave your dog at home rather than take them around with you. However, by being able to quickly see all the available locations that allow pets to stay can make moving around a far less stressful event.

The ‘Travelers’ Stories’ is another section that I think is great for those planning a trip away, with a whole host of unique, camping-related experiences from people who have traveled in Australia. While the website also offers a blog featuring useful tips and advice, as well as a guide for each location, the travelers’ stories are more personal accounts of trips from a first-person perspective, making them more engaging than a typical travel blog full of suggestions. That being said, the articles lack a comments section at the end, where readers can leave their own thoughts and feelings towards the piece.

The email notifications are also a good addition to the site, offering users the chance to get promotions and deals sent straight to their inbox so that they can be amongst the first to take advantage of them. When people are planning trips, they may not necessarily have the time to scan the internet to find discounts on campsites, therefore being able to sign up for free to a scheme that delivers good value on locations you’ve been looking at straight to your email is undoubtedly a great feature to have available to you.

Pros
  • Good selection of pet-friendly recommendations
  • Free, comprehensive city and region guides
  • Travelers’ Stories recounts personal camping trip experiences
  • Email notifications scheme
Cons
  • No comments section on blog
  • Cannot book all campsites; some enquiry only
