Airfordable is an online service that allows customers to book flights for a fraction of the cost upfront and pay the remaining balance in instalments before the departure date. They charge a one-off service fee per booking, allowing users to plan and book trips even if they do not have the current funds at that time. This allows people to take advantage of low prices that may be available months in advance, with no risk of having to pay higher prices later on. Once you have paid the final instalment, Airfordable will send you your e-ticket so you are ready to travel.

Signing up to the platform is completely free, simply requiring users to enter their name and a password. Once you have an account one of my favourite tools to use on Airfordable is the calculator that allows you to find out exactly how much it will cost to book and pay for a flight in instalments, depending on whether you choose 2 week, 3 week or 4 week payment periods. This gives you a breakdown of how much you have to pay up front and how much the website will charge in service fees, so that you know if it is worth reserving the flight immediately or waiting until you have enough funds to pay the entire fare.

Another great feature of Airfordable is the customer service, in particular, the online live chat. This allows users to speak directly with a travel agent to quickly answer any queries without the hassle of making a call or sending an email.

One problem that I have come across when using Airfordable, however, is that the website requires you to take screenshots of flights and enter information, such as where you found the price of the fare. This makes booking a more long-winded process in general, especially if it’s only to save a few dollars.

Pros
  • Take advantage of a reduction in fares even if you do not have the money in your account to pay for the entire thing
  • Receive e-ticket directly to your account when you have finished instalments
  • Calculator allows you to work out if it will be cheaper than paying entire fare at a later date
  • Good customer care
Cons
  • Long-winded process of booking
