Petswelcome is an online platform that matches type, size and number pets with establishments that are happy to accommodate them. They also offer a pet-friendly road trip planner, helping users find hotels along the route to their destination. You can pick your roads, plan stopovers, get driving directions, and save your itinerary to use while on the move, meaning you won’t have to worry about not knowing whether there will be a place that will accept your furry, feathered or finned friend around the next corner.

Searching for pet-friendly accommodation is very easy and quick to do. If you are pressed for time and just want a general overview you can simply enter your destination and hit go. Otherwise, there is an advanced search option, allowing you to enter more particular details, such as type of pet, weight, maximum pet fee, and even preferred hotel chain. One of my favourite features here is the ability to save these preferences so that they can be reapplied at a later date without having to go through the whole process again. This makes for an even quicker experience the next time round and helps if you are planning a trip well in advance and want to check back a few times.

Once you have filled in all your search preferences, you will be able to view a list of all the available pet-friendly hotels in the destination you have chosen. You can then view more details, including photos, hotel description, amenities and availability for your dates. I particularly like the guest ratings and overall score section at the bottom, based on verified guest feedback. This provides for a more well rounded assessment of the hotel, however they are taken from Booking.com and therefore are not specific to those travelling with animals.
