Allianz Global Assistance is a travel insurance company that allows you to search a range of different plans to find the best deal that will suit your needs. By simply entering destination, travel dates, age, state of residence and total trip cost, you can view quotes and find out plan details with just a few clicks.

One of my favourite aspects of using Allianz Global Assistance for my travel insurance is the range of plan options that they present you. Once you have entered your trip itinerary, you will be given the choice between three plans – Basic, Prime and Premier – positioned side-by-side with information such as trip cancellation, emergency medical care and baggage loss easy to compare. I think this is important to have as you can quickly decide which plan will be the most appropriate for your trip, depending on where you’re going and what you’re planning on doing.

Another good part of using Allianz to buy travel insurance that I have found is that they are one of the best options for covering a long trip. While other companies, such as Travelex, limit their coverage to three months, Allianz will insure trips up to six months, making them a great choice for long trips, backpackers and young people studying abroad. Although there is no coverage for injuries sustained doing extreme sports, for a longer and more relaxed trip, they are a great choice.

Nevertheless, unlike other travel insurance companies that offer an online live chat with an agent to answer any queries you may have, Allianz only provide an email address and telephone number for getting in contact. This makes asking questions significantly longer than if they had someone to instantly respond. That being said, their blog contains a range of different articles that are sure to answer any doubts you may have.

Pros
  • Range of different plans offered, including Basic, Prime and Premium
  • Great option for covering a long trip
  • Host of different articles on their blog
Cons
  • No coverage for accidents sustained performing extreme sports
  • No option of speaking with an agent via an online chat
