TraveDoc is a free online doctor appointment scheduling service for people who require a doctor, dentist or specialist when travelling or living outside their home country. It connects patients with handpicked senior physicians who have been vetted in order to provide people with a doctor they can trust regardless of the destination. The service is currently available in over 30 cities worldwide, including Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Bangkok and Abu Dhabi.

For me, one of the best features is the ability to select doctors by language. This is because when traveling through a foreign country with an illness or injury, it is essential that you are able to communicate exactly what the problem is with your doctor, so as not to be misinterpreted. TraveDoc clearly understands the importance of this, therefore it offers a choice between 25 different languages from Arabic to Yiddish.

Once you have entered your preferences, you will be shown a list of available doctors relevant to you, with a profile picture, languages spoken and services offered, as well as where they are located. After selecting a doctor, you can then view more details, such as office hours, photos of the practice and even read user reviews. This helps give a good idea of which doctor is right for you and provides unbiased feedback on the type of service they offer. Booking an appointment is simple enough, either calling the doctor directly or selecting a time and date via the website.

The only issue that I came across when using TraveDoc is that, as a relatively new concept, there is a limited availability of doctors offered on the website. This is especially true when searching for ones that speak a language that differs from the language of the host country.

Pros
  • Access doctors worldwide in variety of different languages
  • Easily find out information on doctor, service provided and user reviews
  • Simple to book an appointment
Cons
  • Limited number of doctors available
